In Attendance was Chairperson William Tyler, Vice-Chairperson Nancy Foss-Yasko and Clerk David Dorren No Public Comment Chairperson Tyler started the meeting with the topic of Perpetual Funds and how said funds were to be dispersed. The current Principal amount is $210,602 with the interest in the Perpetual Funds being $5,000. Recently a request was made through the Town Manager to use interest from the Perpetual Care account to help purchase a new lawn mower for the DPW. Because of time constraints and the need for an answer to the request, the Chairman replied to the Town Manager that purchases of this nature were not an appropriate use of these funds. The Commission decided on a unanimous vote (3-0) that all Expenditures of Perpetual Funds will be voted on in the future, as per Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 114, Section 20. At a recent Selectboard meeting it was suggested that the Cemetery Commission used funds from the Sale of Lots account to create a memorial at the West St. Terrace burial ground of the Arnold/ Litch family. This memorial was funded by the Historical Commission and the Historical Society, and created by volunteer efforts, not by the Cemetery Commission. The topic of the trimming of the hedges at North Cemetery was tabled until after the July budget is approved and passed. The Commission started reviewing CHAPTER 310 of the CEMETERY RULES AND REGULATIONS. The commission decided to review as many sections of Chapter ===PAGE 2=== 310 at each meeting as possible. This month the Commission revamped Section 310-1 Fees and Charges. In looking over the cemeteries Tanner suggested that the South Cemetery needs work on 4-5 acres and the North Cemetery needs help on 7-8 acres. The amount to Top Dressing needed would be 30-45 yards per acre. South Cemetery 5 acres x 45 yards = 225 yards North Cemetery 8 acres x 45 yards = 360 yards Tanner suggested Top Dressing in October and Grub prevention in July. Approximate cost would be as follows: $35,000 for both North and South Cemeteries for Top Dressing $ 7,500 for both North and South Cemeteries for grass seed $ 7.500 for both North and South Cemeteries for Grub/Weed Control Unknown pricing for N and S Cemeteries for Lime Control ===PAGE 2=== Minutes Cemetery Commission Meeting Thursday August 18, 2022 Page 2 Next topic for discussion was the motion to accept the minutes from July 21, 2022 meeting.
