The same is true for use of library facilities during school trips when students are not participating in the school planned activities. The Library can’t take full responsibility for executing the school’s programs – the library is for the entire town, and [school] use of the [Wallace] room must be weighed against town’s general interests.  Personnel Subcommittee: Director’s Evaluation Jeanne made a motion to move the evaluation to the end of meeting, second by Lars. Will be reported to police a s vandalism to public property. o Discussion about patrons with special needs - daily visits that lasts for prolonged time, becoming “parking”. The counselor does not activate the pat rons he is supervising, leaving them to their own devices. With all accomplished, coming in at a difficult moment, with 6.7% it will be $61,352.50 – motion withdrawn. ===PAGE 2=== 1023 Massachusetts Avenue • Lunenburg, MA 01462 • ( 978) 582-4140 Page 2 of 2 o New motion for 6.7% salary increase for Martha by L ars (Dick second) from $57,500, to $61,352.50 for FY-2014. The painting contractor Nick Harrison has done a first-class job. The whole job has come in at ~ 50% of budgeted amou nt(!). Jeanne will draw up communication to all involved ( painting contractor, DPW staff, library staff involved, taxpayers) thanking them for their work a nd support. o Technology Project & Long Term Tech Support MUNI, which was supposed to be on-line with officia l kick-off in July ( this year…) is still not implemented – at least not for the Library. o Library Policies: Difficult Patrons A Policy subcommittee meeting will be called to rev iew the issues, and create one or more policies for how the library will address eventual upcoming problems. Subcommittee: Jeanne, Lisa, Dick – to meet in October. • Other o Programs in the Library: Film evenings (last Friday of the month) are going to start up again in the future. These are movies directed at an adult audience. o Simple pleasures – food demonstrations in the library, simple dishe s that are easy to make. No date set. o Martha: Reported on the focus group “state-wide-lib rary-card” meeting. The organizers had not looked beyond the perceived benefits. What about d ifferences in library policies, and the individual library’s workload if you have to serve the entire state? It would require additional staff, but woul d additional funds for this be available from the sta te? “Pay” library card, as viable option to cover extra costs? Not clear at this point if college li braries to be included in the system – college book s are needed primarily for the students at the local college. More unanswered questions than answers at this time. o Dick: continuation of OML discussion. We (the trus tees) need to set aside some time for this – October / November meeting. To be put on a future agenda. With John Mara leaving, a trustees “tour” of the li brary to show the new trustees where all the nooks and crannies are – all different little close ts etc. o Bob Ebersole, representative for the Board of Selec tmen: Comments to the above, on OML: The trustees are “doing well”. We meet the criteria fo r the agenda, but library door (meeting room) needs to be accessible during the whole meeting tim e. Provision of subcommittees, - all need to have minutes created. The May-16 BOD meeting which to a large extend was about the OML; DVD of the meeting should be available for viewing. The meeting will possible also be on You- Tube in the future. Martha Moore will investigate this to determine if the budget isn’t reflecting actual costs or if it is an accounting and reporting limitation of the system. • Collections • Building/Facilities • Programs • Technology • State Aid • Technology Plan Martha revealed her newly developed, integrated Technology Plan for the library. Using a dual processor server, NComputing L300 boxes with a firefly solution, the plan provides 19 new public computers and 10 staff computers. All software, security and user controls are installed, maintained and updated on the one server. The plan provides estimates that the new hardware system will save over 90% of current electricity costs and 75% of the on-going management costs associated with the library’s existing computers. The funds to purchase this system are available ===PAGE 2=== 1023 Massachusetts Avenue • Lunenburg, MA 01462 • ( 978) 582-4140 Page 2 of 2 in the library’s State Aid Fund. Bob Ebersole explained that even when the library pays for a capital expenditure, it still needs to be included in the town’s Capital Funding. • Friends of the LPL: Martha and Jeanne updated the Trustees about the Cultural Horizons program and Endowment Fund. • Lunenburg’s website: Trustee’s presence Trustee Chair Jeanne Raboin, spoke about the Trustee’s lack of presence on the Town of Lunenburg’s web site. Although some Trustee information is located on the LPL web page, it is incomplete. The Trustees feel that as an elected-board, they should have a section on the Boards and Committees ( http://www.lunenburgma.gov/content/204/default.aspx) page. Bob Ebersole acknowledged this problem, pointing out there are many issues with the town’s web site. He suggested updating the information on the LPL web page, but a separate web page isn’t likely until the Town’s site is re-designed and updated.
